The enslaved person had skills. It kind of shows the people of the town that the owner really values in and like wants them back. So that might be a bigger incentive for the people to return them because they know the owner will like pay up and actually want the enslaved person back. That doesn't necessarily mean that the person, the, the enslaver would keep them. But they're saving money, right?
