How Does the Earth End Up Having a Magnetic Field?
How does the earth end up having a magnetic field? It has to do with the liquid core of the earth. One source of magnetism is circulating electric currents. electrons themselves have an intrinsic magnetic moment, which you can't really think about as the result of a circulating electric charge. And that's where lots of magnetism in magnetic materials comes from.
