Homo Ectus and the Origins of Language
When the bones were found in the 1990s we had a simpler view of human evolution and there was less fossil evidence around to compare them with. We allocated those bones to Homo Heidebergensis which is known from Europe from around the same time period. Now fast forward another 30 years we've got a lot more finds in Europe showing a lot more diversity, so this suggests a more complicated scenario. But what we need desperately is more material from Sima del Huessos at Hatterpureka where they seem to represent primitive neanderthals.
