The Difference Between Empathy and Compassion
When we are experiencing empathy, the brain regions associated with pain in negative emotions become active. When we are experiencing compassion, it's a totally different brain network. And I think there's a little bit of a, well, I'm an empath, I feel other people's feelings. That might be another way to feel a sense of worth, a sense of belonging. It can oftentimes even feel like physical sensations in your own body. So is it empathy or is it a trauma response? I don't know.
