Most students left school 15 and only say about 15% of the cohort would carry on when actually less than that. And what they studied was the sciences. So you couldn't do with a history degree? What could you do with an English degree, apart from teach history or English in school,. Schools weren't interested particularly in having people who had degrees in history or English necessarily. But it's been muddied by the expansion in the 1990s when in fact, all post school educations became university's effects so the teacher training institutions became university's nursing training were rolled into universities in 2000.
