This chapter explores the origins of Bayes' rule, from its initial unpublished work to its popularization by Pierre Simon Laplace. It also discusses the disrepute it faced after Laplace's death and its taboo in mainstream statistics, as well as its important role in cracking the Enigma code during WWII.
