The advantages of staying in a vacation rental is that typically they offer you more space than a traditional hotel. Vacation rentals also give you more privacy than hotels as they're often standalone apartments or houses. There's no onsite restaurant usually, no housekeeping service, so you've got to make your own bed and wash your own dishes. They're often more authentic too because you're staying in a residential area rather than an actual tourist village.
