The Importance of Mindful Eating
Eberstadt: We live in an age of mindful eating and mindless sex. The more preoccupied we become with the moral and nutritional value of food, the greater potential to turn a simple act into an insatiable ethical quagmire. Just as the Victorian era's desire for sexual propriety could turn into pru-tery, so too does our current desire for holistic eating run the risk of creating moral anxiety and even neurosis. Buying a tomato at the grocery store or ordering flowers for your grandmother means you are unwittingly supporting toxic pesticides, exploded exploited labor, contributing to global warming,. Eberstadt says.
