The Fallout by Isaac Edward Leibowitz

The book is set 600 years after a thermonuclear war that basically destroyed civilization. In the wake of this, people kind of rose up against science and blamed scientists for causing it. And so there was the scientist, Leibowitz, and he sort of was given shelter in some sort of monastery or something. He either started or at least was a major participant in this effort to preserve knowledge.
