Most historians think the idea that there was ever bayonet fighting, you no long knives on the ends of rifles. In ancient battle one side always runs before having to get stuck by the other. The horror of being bayonetted is intense. But nowadays, you can avoid that in most cases. It's how you fight. We stick people with pointy things, or they stick us with theirs. Persians have to deal with it on their side whether we're talking about pre gunpowder battle or the post-gunpowder era.
