Are You Worthily Worthy of Praise?

Dr. Kline: The confessions really emphasizes ongoing conversion in part because of book 10 you know we'll get to book time and then the following books but also what I want to say now is in the way in which the confessions is written in the first place. Augustine doesn't just do that as a rhetorical flourish or to sound good he really does think he can't actually speak about his life without God's help, says Dr. Kline. So something else that's very different about autobiography in the confessions as opposed to other autobiography is that there isn't really a neat beginning nor a neat ending.
