Why Is TikTok a Threat to American Culture?
By 2020, TikTok had more than 800 million users outside China and was drawing the attention of American politicians. There were concerns about how this personal data could be used in non-innocent ways. US TikTok users are now spending an average of 80 minutes a day on the app, more than Facebook and Instagram combined. This is primarily watching videos recommended by an algorithm developed in Beijing.
