CHAPTER

Is Modern Technology Enabling Workers?

Stephen Greenhouse: How much would you say that modern technology empowers workers more now naturally? He says it puts natural pressure on employers to improve conditions and therefore makes unions less necessary than they might have been in the past. Shreger: Since 1980, with unions declining, productivity has risen three times as fast as compensation per hour. And even though we are still not getting our fair share of the pie, I want to thank Allison Shreger and Stephen Greenhouse for debating this week's No Laughing Matter at the Village Underground.
