When industrialization happened in russia, like, so much of the land was going untended. So they just basically forced people to stay and then over years, that devolved into basic slavery. Some serfs were domestic servants and a household, and some nobles would even have entire theatre companies of serfs who would be like singers and painters. But no, it's like if a musician missed a note, they could be tortured. Yes, you technically weren't allowed to kill a serf, but you would torture them or punish them within an inch of their lives. And i don't want a over that at all. It's like, serfdom exists and is awful
