Cultures are effect ly structures of refusal. Not every idea that was along the silk rood necessarily picked up one, even if it was a technology that might have benefited them. For example, the athabascans in alaska refuse to use innuit kayaks despite they're better suited for the environment in their own boots. Even like technologies that have adaptive or utilitarian benefits might still be, it might brefused by people who might even benefit from them.
