Is the Consumer Smelting Into the Recession?

Consumer sentiment readings for the past months have come in quite poorly. Target came out of their quarterly report, and they then the stock proceeded to plunge ahead o worse day since 19 87. I don't know what economist use consumer sentiment in o t fom a predictive tool, but i'm very sceptical about that tool as a foreshadowing weakening a consumer demand. The thing that they said that worried me most was the point that they used to be very good at reading consumer demand, but the pandemic and supply chane shortages has wroughta havoc on their ability to forecast.
