Trauma - The Story of Woundness

Trauma is a later 17th century word of English origin that literally means wound. Our modern English definitions define trauma as a disordered psychic or behavioral state resulting from severe mental or emotional stress or physical injury. If you hurt your leg, you walk around with a limp because your body is compensating for the pain. Or if someone says something that pricks your insecurity, you get quiet and turn inward to deal with it. So trauma is not just being wounded. It's the story that arises from living wounded.
