The Qing's Conquest of Yunnan

Ortai set out to tame this Sip Songpanav region and in 1729 that he did. Ortai convinced the emperor to beef up the military presence down there as well as other recommendations to enhance the Qing presence in Yunnan. In 1731 Ortai rode off into the sunset and went on to serve the Qing and other military and civil roles. He was a major figure of his day and he left with the Qing firmly in control in Yunnan but the seething resentment remained. Not one year after Ortai left in 1732 there was a rather significant incident down in Sip SongPanav that lasted for three months. It all ended with the die rebel leaders head
