John Rawls: Liberalism is very much a sort of strategy for toleration. He says it tries to go to like minimal principles, like John Rawls' kind of position. But once they reject metaphysics, he says, "it becomes impossible to see why their account of justice is anything but question-peck" And now what we have is this rise of authoritarianism because people haven't been given strong moral reasons to support things like liberal institutions and respecting the rights of non-Catholics or other people.
