The Fire of 18 35
At least 30 people died on that july morning, including a few volunteer fire fighters like the lawyer augustus l Cowdry. In total, destroying over 303 hundred and 50 buildings, most of which had already been partially damaged by the blaze ten years before. The financial cost to the city was great, although significantly less than that of 18 35. So it ended up somewhere between six million and ten million dollars.
