An increasing number of christian thinkers are coming to the same position, coercion has no moral value. Pierre bale argues that religious coercion forces some one to show that he cares more about human responses than divine will. That by getting the protestant to go to catholic mass, or a catholic to renounce mass and sing hymns in a protestant chapel, far from saving souls, you've damned them. Because a pers is what a person chooses to be. To follow people into the inner sanctum of their soul was something voltaire would simp put off limits.
