Benjamin Rush fell sick with yellow fever for the second time in a month. He instructed his students to bleed and purge him, and for the next six days he was bedridden. For ordinary Philadelphians battling the disease, disagreements among local physicians was frustrating. Many were watching their loved ones die around them while they desperately sought help.
