The image of God is not seated in our intellectual capacity or what have you, but we are imagers in our totality. We will all be deified, as St. Peter said, made partakers of the divine nature. The church fathers and the Protestant reformers agree with it. If we were an exact copy, see Paul calls Christ an exact copy,. then we would also be immutable, unchanging. That's what it means when we will be like God as much as it is possible for a creature to be.

In the beginning, God spoke the world into existence. He made man and woman the crown of his creation, image-bearers of the Almighty God. Humans have a special place in God’s created order. But as we know, it didn’t take long for sin to enter the world, corrupting this image and changing our relationship to our Creator.
