It's hidden from external standards external judgments. One finds oneself because one tends to lose oneself ironically enough in what's outside, he says. There are also some beautiful examples of that my my favorite I suppose at the moment is Malcolm X, who went to prison as a young man for theft. He had grown up in pretty extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
