The Importance of Chapters and Verses in the New Testament

The New Testament did not contain verse or chapter divisions until the 15th century. The reason you start putting in chapters and verses is to help with references so that if you're trying to describe something, somebody can go right to it. When you don't have that, it's very hard to track down a passage. We tend to think that when you go to the next chapter, you're on to something else, but they weren't writing them in Chapter 5.
