Is a VPN Provider a Must Have?

Many in the privacy community see v p n services like projon v p n or molvad as must have, saying that your devices should be connected to them at all times. As a sisadmin and privacy not myself, i have a hard time recommending this practice to friends and family. I subscribe to a v p n provider and use it for specific purposes, but it doesn't feel right me to indiscriminately forward all my traffic to a third party that i know very little about. If you're do in something sketchy, if you're by passing copyright, let's say, bit torrent, or ah, just even just a down load from a sketchy web site,
