CHAPTER

The Importance of Participation in Research on Autism

I think certain indigenous peoples have been impacted by colonization in different ways. For some nations, their understandings of autism are really strong and they know who autistic people are in their community. In my context, that isn't the case. And so I wanted a word for who I am, like in our language, image, and was asking people around. When you cut people off from their language, that has such a ginormous massive impact on their whole understanding. These stories are out there across our our homeland as matey actually because that's my people. But you know, these stories are global and they exist.
