The Court's Decision in the Pierce Decision in Oregon

Just a week after the Pierce decision, the Supreme Court for the first time held that freedom of speech and freedom of the press, apply to the states. So it looks like the court could have easily hastened that process by using Meyer as the occasion for incorporating elites' freedom of religion in state law. And there really is no particular answer as to why the court didn't take that step yet. I mean, it wasn't ready for another two years. The court did not at a time when there was widespread fear of political radicalism.
