Food as Medicine - A New Approach to Health Care
The Biden administration has started approving requests from states to use federal Medicaid funds for nutritional counseling and groceries. This is part of a move to determine whether so-called food as medicine initiatives can bolster public health and reduce costs. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved an Arkansas pilot program in November that would allow the state to spend up to $85 million on nutrition counseling, among other things. Massachusetts and Oregon have had similar pilot programs approved.
