The Myth of the Masons

There's this myth practically urban legend that the masons are this super powerful thing. So lots of scared people who don't have anywhere else to go show up on their front door step and say, can I join you? And then intelligent prudent political leaders organize this force. The use of Latin is propaganda in this period, much as it has been propaganda in many other chunks of human history since it stopped being spoken. Just the appeal of antiquity, something that you can claim has lasted for millennia seems to have a certain draw too.
