How to Encrypt Credentials in a Plain Text File

Ralph says that it keeps credentials in a plain text file. Does that mean that it's one big text file containing them all? Or is it just one directory with one file per credential? Because maybe that would make more sense if you're not doing the ZFS encryption method there. That would mean that you're only encrypting one set of credentials at a time. And I like it. If you told me that I needed to make a bet, though, I would absolutely not bet that was what Ralph was doing.
