Are Satellites the Only Solution?

We're looking at a new generation of these massive, flat, reflective satellites. There doesn't seem to be a lot of analysis going on about what the long term consequences are. I think it is quite scary that we're potentially compromising really important science. Would you rather have more access to internet, or get better warning when a near earth object is going to crash into the earth? That could actually be pretty dangerous. Itit doesn't sound like a very difficult decision to make.
