The Pyramids of Egypt
The classic gigantic pyramids were all built in the course of just three generations by snefer, his son, hufu and his grandson, kafre. The later kings of the old kingdom couldn't build pyramids like those of their predecessors. Too much changed. Each of these pyramids sat at the heart of its own extended complex. This complex included an enclosure wall surrounding it, a small temple or chapel directly adjacent to the pyramid, and then a causeway leading from the enclosure entrance to a separate temple. It's most likely that the great sphinx was also built in this period, probably by cafre.
