Despite standard indvestant advice to the contrary, individuals do often engage in panic selling. A disproportionate number of households make panic sales when there are sharp market down turns - a phenomenon they call freaking out. Investors who are male, or above the age of forty five, or married, or have more dependents, tend to freak out with greater frequencyu and although the panic sales protect the investors during the crisis? I don't know protected you are after 90%. Such investors often wait too long to re invest, causing them to miss out on significant profits when markets rebound.
