The X-Files: A TV Show That Taped Into Something the Nation Wanted
Writer Howard Gordon says the show's focus on government conspiracies gave voice to a creeping unease that the government must be hiding things from us. Creator Chris Carter said the show was playing on the universal fears of the unknown. David de Covney: I think it has to do with religious stirrings, a sort of new-aid yearning for an alternate reality and the search for some kind of extra sensory god.
