Hesiod's Theogony

Hesiod's Theogony is shorthand for what was happening as Greece pulled itself out of its Dark Age. In the poem, in addition to a dozen others, Zeus marries Dikey, the goddess of justice and moral order. Homer may have been a single individual or many compilers putting oral tradition into print. But his universe was not an orderly place where justice prevailed; it was fundamentally chaotic.
