Sam Walton's Story
Sam Walton ran a variety store chain in Bentonville, Arkansas. He wanted to get into discounting on his own by building stores one at a time just like he had his other stores. But doing that would mean going deep into debt and putting everything he owned at risk. Sam wrote out the basic philosophy behind discount selling: If he bought an item for 80 cents and sold it for $1 then sales skyrocketed.
