There are situations where these might not match. Critically ill patients can make all different sorts of antibodies. In stem cell transplant, you don't need to be ABO compatible. IVIG is pulled human immunoboglulins taking a bunch of donors and just throwing it into a pot and giving it to somebody else. And I think about hypogammolipine related to CAR-T in some cases.
