What's This Other Chapter Doing Here?
John chapter 21 is an unusual chapter. It seems to have served the purpose of an epilogue. An epilogue is not part of the main body of a story, it's fenced off from the main narrative. But yet it is intended to be part of the narrative. And in the case of the gospel of john, as richard borcham and others have argued, this balances the prologue with which the gospel begins.
