Right dropped out of university, but Mason and Barrett took sabbaticals. It was only after getting signed that the group became full-time professionals. Arnold Lane would be the only single Joe Boyd would work on with the group. EMI insisted on only using in-house producers so they were replaced by Norman Smith who had aspirations to pop stardom himself.
