The Women's Strike at the Fairfield Works
The striking women marched through the East End to like a Salvation Army band, singing at the top of their lungs. It took some time for outside support to reach them, even Annie Besant lagged behind. By the end of the day, over 1,000 women were on strike. They made their demands clear: they wanted better pay and a separate dining room for their food. Here's Dr Louise Ra once again telling her story about how she became one of Britain's most famous match factory workers.
