The word car has gotten confused a lot of people because car is a very multi-purpose device. Vehicle automation isn't dead, but we need to find the targeted use cases where it actually makes sense. Those are trucking, last mile delivery, shuttles on dedicated routes. There are a lot of applications where vehicle automation and drive with this completely drive with this vehicle makes sense.

The story of automated driving often starts with the DARPA Challenges of 2004-07, but for Jan Becker the story starts well before then.
