The Limits of Contact With Other Civilizations
The odds don't seem to favor us benefiting from contact with aliens, they set in some kind of vague existential way. The game theory aspect essentially boils down to assume you have nobody able or willing to talk and need to make decisions in isolation. Additional colonies really just make for additional ways to accidentally expose yourself,. Others would get you before you got big and powerful enough.
