The Myth of Their Romance
The myth of their romance is that they met in 1972 when she saw him at a polo match. The story is that she walks up to him and introduces herself with the line, hello, my great grandmother was the mistress of your great grandfather. But apparently they had actually met a year or 18 months earlier at the home of a common friend named Lucia Santa Cruz. And so they started talking on the phone. So by the time this zinger story happens, they've already been in each other's orbit for a while.
