The Dilemma of a Child in Need
I had to challenge a lot of professionals in that case which as a newly qualified social worker was extremely difficult for me more so than working with the family. I managed to get the trust of the children by talking to them about things they were interested in like astrophysics, Charles Darwin or eugenics. The eldest one was nearly seventeen and we got a carot of for all three of those children based on the fact that they hadn't left the house. It went from child in need very quickly and escalated to court. We don't just accept that this is what's going on at surface level and not look at what's happening underneath.
