The Life and Times of James Webster
In 1787, Webster founded American magazine in New York City. In 1789, when he was 31 and she was 23, he got married to Rebecca Greenleaf. They eventually had six daughters and one son together along with another son who died while he was still a baby. A little later in his life, he also became a devout Calvinist and a born again Christian.
The conflict between Noah Webster and Joseph Emerson Worcester, and their dictionaries came to be known as the Dictionary Wars. To set the scene, part one covers the biographies of the two men.
