Ep. 42: “Immune Mechanisms After Stroke” Featuring Dr. Arthur Liesz

The Immunology Podcast

CHAPTER

The Role of the Immune System in Strokes

We simply have ischemia which leads to tissue injury. If you have such a big tissue injury of a QE developing in any organ, this will lead to a massive inflammatory response. Now the second tissue injury, if you want to call it a back, that you mentioned is reperfusion injury. But I conceptually separate this from the actual inflammatory response. There are effusion injury and activation of endothelial might promote further inflammation and might even modulate it. So after the person survives the stroke, there's damage. Do people often have a chronic kind of damage? Does this blood vessel recover but the tissue is gone?
