Aquinas's View on Suffering

Aquinas thinks that God gives the most difficult tasks to the best people who are able to carry them out well. By suffering much, they will be transformed in such a way that they might be more perfectly united with God in the afterlife. If it's really true that suffering brings about greater spiritual goods, you might wonder if you should remain passive when those around you are suffering. Aquinas does not think that all conceivable evils will work for a person's ultimate good.
