The Differences Between Urine and CSF Cultures
For 24 hours 91% of organisms will be positive and by 36 hours it's 97%. Most urine cultures reported out historically at the 24 hour mark anyway. CSF even though the time to positivity is artificial because at most of our institution someone looks at it only once or twice a day that the large number of CSF cultures that are positive are still going to grow within the first 36 hours.
