Korematsu is a case from 1944 about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. In 1942, FDR issued an executive order mandating the creation of certain military areas and granting the military the ability to exclude any or all Americans in its discretion. Shortly after, the military issued an order for all persons of Japanese ancestry to report to designated areas where they were then moved into concentration camps. So there's a fundamental legal question here. Legal, illegal. And the Supreme Court in a six to three decision says, no, they're fine.
